Bluefaced Leicester Sheep
We have started our own fiber flock of Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) and BFL cross sheep. The crosses are high percentage BFL and Wensleydale. These sheep will provide the majority of our fiber for our handspinning and future knitting and weaving projects. We may occasionally have fleeces for sale. Check our For Sale page for updates on what is available.
The BFL sheep is a longwool sheep, with fiber that is on the finer end. They have a micron count of about 22-24, and a staple length averaging 3"-6". Most of the BFL are white, with a few natural colors. They do have a lighter weight fleece, typically under 5 lbs.
The Wensleydale crosses already have a thicker fleece, and yet maintain the fine fiber, luster, and structure of the BFL wool. We really like the BFL/Wensleydale crosses, and have decided to continue with that cross. We will be expanding our flock, and bringing in new genetics to work towards the right mix for what we want in high quality hand spinning fleeces.
The newest addition to our flock are two very nice purebred Cormo ewe lambs. Cormos are a finewool sheep with a micron count of about 17-23 microns and staple length averaging 3"-5". All registered Cormos are white, but there are some lines of natural colored ones. Their fleeces are a heavier fleece at 5-12 lbs. We are really looking forward to seeing how these ewe lambs grow up. We will be crossing them in the future to a purebred BFL ram. This finewool longwool cross will be the start of our select cross-breeding program. Check back to see future lambs and see how the crosses turn out!

Dahli
50% BFL 50% Wensleydale/Rambouillet
Dahli is a gorgeous, dark grey almost black. She has the clean face and legs of the BFL, but the nice thick fleece from the Wenslydale. Compared to the others, she does have a little more fleece down the top part of her legs, but the rest is still nice and clean. The crimp in her fiber is a little more tight than some of the others. This could be due to the Rambouillet in her. Her lamb fleece weighed 6 lbs 1 oz and has an average length of 5 inches.
